Problem 1
Renault Kadjar: Oil consumption and timing chain stretch on the 1.2 turbo petrol
What goes wrong
Some 1.2 turbo petrol engines from this period burn oil through the piston rings. Running low on oil then speeds up timing chain stretch, and oily spark plugs cause misfires.
How to check it yourself
Fill to the max mark and measure top-ups over 1,000 km; listen for a chain rattle at a cold start and read cam timing codes.
The usual fix
Ask the dealer for an oil-consumption test: many engines got goodwill repairs (new pistons and rings). Replace a stretched chain kit and keep oil changes short.
Signs: High oil consumption, Rattle on cold start, Misfire under load, Blue smoke

Problem 2
Renault Kadjar: Sooted EGR valve or blocked particulate filter
What goes wrong
Short trips and stop-start driving soot up the EGR valve and fill the particulate filter; the turbo actuator can also stick.
How to check it yourself
Read the codes and live data (EGR position, DPF soot load, boost against requested boost).
The usual fix
Clean or replace the EGR valve; regenerate or clean the filter; free or replace a sticking turbo actuator.
Signs: Loss of power, Check engine light, Rough idle
