Problem 1
Opel Insignia: Rattle at idle and clutch judder: worn dual-mass flywheel
What goes wrong
The dual-mass flywheel wears, giving a rattle at idle that stops when you press the clutch, judder when pulling away, and a vibration when switching off.
How to check it yourself
Listen at idle in neutral: a rattle that disappears when the clutch pedal is pressed points to the flywheel. A garage can measure the flywheel’s free play.
The usual fix
Replace the dual-mass flywheel together with the clutch kit.
Signs: Clutch slipping, Steering vibration
Problem 2
Opel Insignia: Sooted EGR valve or blocked particulate filter
What goes wrong
Soot sticks the EGR valve and fills the particulate filter, especially with short trips.
How to check it yourself
Read the codes and live data (EGR position, DPF soot load and differential pressure).
The usual fix
Clean or replace the EGR valve; regenerate, clean, or replace the particulate filter, and include longer drives.
Signs: Loss of power, Check engine light, Rough idle
Fault codes: P0401, P0403, P2002, P2463
