Problem 1
Opel Corsa: Timing chain rattle from a worn tensioner
What goes wrong
The oil-pressure-fed chain tensioner wears and the chain stretches, made worse by long oil-change intervals.
How to check it yourself
Listen for a rattle at a cold start or on acceleration and read cam/crank correlation codes.
The usual fix
Replace chain, tensioner, and guides, and keep oil changes on time or earlier.
Signs: Rattle on cold start, Misfire under load, Check engine light

Problem 2
Opel Corsa: Clutch wear or Easytronic gearbox faults
What goes wrong
Clutches wear early with town use; on the Easytronic automated gearbox the clutch actuator and its adaptation fail.
How to check it yourself
For slipping: engine revs rise without extra speed in a high gear. On Easytronic, read the gearbox codes and run a clutch adaptation with a scan tool.
The usual fix
Replace the clutch kit; on Easytronic, repair or replace the clutch actuator and re-learn the clutch.
Signs: Clutch slipping, Harsh shifting
Problem 3
Opel Corsa: Coolant leak from the thermostat housing
What goes wrong
The plastic thermostat housing and coolant outlet on the cylinder head crack and leak.
How to check it yourself
With a cold engine, look for coolant residue around the thermostat housing on the left of the cylinder head, and pressure-test the system.
The usual fix
Replace the thermostat housing with its seal, then refill and bleed the cooling system.
Signs: Coolant loss, Engine overheating
Fault codes: P0128
Problem 4
Opel Corsa: Electric power steering stops working
What goes wrong
The electric power steering motor, its torque sensor, or its wiring fails, making the steering suddenly heavy.
How to check it yourself
Look for the steering warning light and read the power steering module codes. Check the battery voltage first, as low voltage can switch assistance off.
The usual fix
Repair the connector or replace the steering column motor or sensor as the codes indicate. Heavy steering is a safety issue: drive carefully until fixed.
