Problem 1
Skoda Fabia: Timing chain stretch on the older 1.2 and 1.4 TSI
What goes wrong
Before the belt-driven EA211 (from about 2012-2013), the 1.2 and 1.4 TSI used a timing chain that stretches, sometimes within five years.
How to check it yourself
Listen for a metallic rattle at a cold start and read cam/crank correlation codes; a garage can confirm stretch from the cam-phaser values or by inspecting the tensioner.
The usual fix
Replace the chain, tensioner, and guides with the latest parts. Don’t drive on a loud rattle: a jumped chain bends the valves.
Signs: Rattle on cold start, Rough idle, Misfire under load, Check engine light
Fault codes: P0016, P0017, P0011
Problem 2
Skoda Fabia: Electric window stops or drops into the door
What goes wrong
The window regulator cable or its plastic clips break, or the window motor fails.
How to check it yourself
Listen for the motor running when you press the switch: running without the glass moving means a broken regulator; silence points to the motor, switch, or wiring.
The usual fix
Replace the window regulator (often supplied with the motor).
Problem 3
Skoda Fabia: Sticking electronic wastegate actuator
What goes wrong
Carbon builds up around the turbo’s electronic wastegate linkage, especially on gently driven cars, so it sticks or rattles.
How to check it yourself
Read boost codes and compare requested and actual boost; listen for a rattle from the turbo at idle or when lifting off.
The usual fix
Free and adjust the wastegate linkage, or replace the actuator; a worn linkage means a turbo replacement.
Signs: Loss of power, Check engine light, Turbo whistle
Fault codes: P0299, P0234, P2563
Problem 4
Skoda Fabia: Worn ignition coil causing a misfire
What goes wrong
Ignition coils on the three-cylinder 1.0 MPI wear, usually from 50,000-70,000 km.
How to check it yourself
Swap the coil of the misfiring cylinder with another and see if the misfire moves.
The usual fix
Replace the faulty coil and check the spark plugs.
Signs: Misfire under load, Rough idle, Check engine light
Fault codes: P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303
