Problem 1
Nissan Qashqai: CVT judder, whine, or limp mode
What goes wrong
The CVT overheats and wears its belt and pulleys, made worse by never changing the fluid (Nissan called it lifetime fill).
How to check it yourself
Read the gearbox codes and CVT fluid temperature and degradation values in live data; note judder at low speed or a rising whine.
The usual fix
Change the CVT fluid with genuine NS-2/NS-3 fluid (every 50,000-60,000 km) and update the software; a whining or slipping CVT usually needs replacing.
Signs: Transmission slipping, Harsh shifting, Loss of power

Problem 2
Nissan Qashqai: DPF blockage, turbo, or injector faults on the dCi
What goes wrong
Short trips block the DPF; turbos and injectors wear on higher-mileage cars.
How to check it yourself
Read codes and live data: DPF soot load, boost, and injector correction values.
The usual fix
Regenerate or clean the DPF; repair the turbo or injectors as the tests show.
Signs: Loss of power, Check engine light, Black smoke
Fault codes: P2002, P2463, P0299
Problem 3
Nissan Qashqai: Timing chain wear on the 1.2 DIG-T
What goes wrong
The timing chain can wear early, sometimes from 30,000-50,000 km.
How to check it yourself
Listen for a metallic rattle at a cold start and read cam/crank correlation codes.
The usual fix
Replace the chain kit; check for a Nissan software update and warranty or goodwill cover.
Signs: Rattle on cold start, Rough idle, Check engine light
